Good morning, {{firstName}}.

An Ohio dealer just pleaded guilty to trafficking counterfeit Honda airbags from China. eBay is banning airbag sales starting Sept. 24. And after two and a half years of engineering, Autel cracked bidirectional and ADAS calibration access on Nissan's CONSULT 4 line. Today we cover what changes for your shop.

RECALL

1. Ohio dealer guilty: counterfeit Honda airbags from China

John Bojorquez pleaded guilty to importing and selling counterfeit airbags through JB Ohio Auto Sale, LLC. These fakes went into vehicles sold to real drivers. This is the second major counterfeit airbag bust this year and a reminder that aftermarket and used-parts channels carry real risk. If you source airbags or SRS parts, verify the supply chain.

Mark says: Ask your parts suppliers for chain-of-custody docs on every airbag and inflator order starting this week.

RECALL

2. eBay bans airbag and inflator sales starting Sept. 24

The online marketplace is pulling the plug on airbag and inflator sales entirely. Certain other SRS components are now restricted to approved U.S. sellers only. This move cuts off a common gray-market channel for counterfeit parts. If any of your team sources parts online, this changes where they can shop.

Mark says: Update your parts sourcing SOP now. eBay airbag orders will be blocked in two days.

3. Autel cracks Nissan ADAS calibration after 2.5-year push

Autel announced bidirectional and ADAS calibration access across Nissan's CONSULT 4 line using the new MA800 platform. The company demonstrated ADAS calibration live on a 2026 Nissan Rogue. This opens up independent access to Nissan ADAS work that previously required dealer-level tools and justifies the investment in modern scan platforms.

Mark says: If you have Nissan volume, verify your scan tool roadmap includes MA800 or equivalent Nissan ADAS access this quarter.

INSURANCE

4. Texas Insurance Commission mandates appraisal rights in Auto Bill of Rights

The Texas Department of Insurance approved amendments to its Consumer Auto Bill of Rights that include mandatory right-to-appraisal language. This strengthens policyholder leverage in disputes with insurers over repair estimates and total-loss valuations. Texas shops now have regulatory backing to reference when fighting lowball estimates.

Mark says: Front desk: print this TDI ruling and hand it to customers disputing insurer estimate denials.

5. Michigan Auto Body Association launches statewide voice in Lansing

A new statewide association was formed to represent collision repairers at the legislative level. It joins SCRS as an affiliate and prioritizes fair claims handling, anti-steering enforcement, and OEM procedure reimbursement. This gives Michigan shops a formal channel to fight bad legislation and push back on insurer pressure.

Mark says: Michigan shop owners: join your state association now if you haven't. This group has your back on reimbursement and anti-steering.
