1. ARA challenges GM's recycled parts ban
GM updated its collision position statement to strictly prohibit recycled OEM parts in repairs. The Automotive Recyclers Association disagrees, arguing that GM's own ADAS inspection and calibration standards don't distinguish between new and recycled parts once they're installed. The association plans a formal response citing OEM technical requirements.

2. Illinois appraisal law takes effect July 1, 2027
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker signed House Bill 4165, requiring an appraisal provision in all auto insurance policies with first-party physical damage coverage starting July 1, 2027. This gives shops and insurers less than 11 months to adjust processes. The law requires carriers to include appraisal language in policies.

4. Montana class action: State Farm denies pre and post scans
A class action lawsuit filed in Montana alleges State Farm systematically refuses to pay for pre-repair and post-repair diagnostic scans when performed at independent collision shops. This mirrors denial patterns from other states. The suit challenges the insurer's blanket refusal to cover scan costs.

5. California airbag regs comment deadline is Aug. 24
The California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) is closing the public comment period on proposed airbag safety regulations five days from now. The rules would require shops to meet specific standards for airbag repairs and likely impact labor and procedures across the state. Shops still have time to submit comments.
