Good morning, {{firstName}}.

Hyundai just recalled 400,000 vehicles for a front camera software issue that can activate brakes without warning. That's a direct ADAS calibration play. Plus, Progressive officially dethroned State Farm as America's #1 auto insurer for the first time since WWII, and Illinois passed right-to-appraise legislation that affects how you handle disputes.

RECALL

1. Hyundai recalls 400K for unexpected brake activation

A software issue in the front camera can trigger brakes without driver input. NHTSA received complaints of unexpected emergency braking. This is a camera recalibration issue masquerading as a brake system failure. When these vehicles roll in, verify the camera calibration first before sublet brake work.

Mark says: Add Hyundai camera recalibration to your recall lookup on every check-in this week. If you sublet it, attach the technical bulletin to the supplement.

INSURANCE

2. Progressive officially becomes #1 auto insurer

State Farm lost its position as America's top auto insurer for the first time since World War II. Progressive's market share growth has real implications for supplement negotiation and direct repair program relationships. Expect carrier pushback to shift and DRP dynamics to tighten.

Mark says: Progressive is now your largest carrier by volume. Audit your labor rates and cycle times against their benchmarks before they audit you.

INSURANCE

3. Illinois passes right-to-appraise legislation

HB 4160 passed the Illinois Senate 56-2-0 with amendments intact. The bill requires every auto insurance policy to include a right-to-appraise clause. This gives shops explicit legal standing to demand independent appraisals when insurer estimates are inadequate.

Mark says: If you operate in Illinois, front your estimators with this statute citation before accepting lowball initial estimates from carriers.

OEM

4. OEC RepairLogic integrates with CCC ONE

Early adopters report saving 10 to 15 minutes per repair order on estimating and planning workflows. The integration is now available to all collision shops running CCC. If you use CCC for estimates, this cuts manual data entry at intake.

Mark says: If you run CCC and OEC, evaluate this integration. 10-15 minutes per RO compounds fast across your monthly volume.

5. Plasnomic completes OEM polypropylene bumper weld testing

Testing validates repair methods for polypropylene bumper covers using welding instead of adhesive. Results support development of industry best practices. Shops relying on adhesive-only repair may face OEM liability if weld-based methods become mandated.

Mark says: Watch for OEM service bulletins requiring bumper weld repair instead of adhesive. Train your techs now or plan for sublet costs.

📬 Hit reply. Reply: when a Hyundai comes in for braking complaints, are you checking camera cal before touching the brake system, or is your sublet shop catching it first?
